About this tool
This page lets you look up the four key sky events of a day — sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset — for any date and any supported city. It also shows the total daylight duration (sunset minus sunrise) so you can plan outdoor work, photography, fishing, or religious observances tied to dawn or dusk.
How the times are computed
Sunrise and sunset are computed from the city\'s latitude, longitude, and the calendar date using the standard astronomical refraction-corrected horizon (sun centre 50' below the horizon). Moonrise and moonset use the same algorithm with the moon\'s ephemeris. Results match official almanac data to within ±1 minute.
Why daylight duration matters
Day length varies through the year — Kolkata gets roughly 13h 30m at the summer solstice (June 21) and 10h 45m at the winter solstice (December 21). Knowing the exact figure helps schedule farming work, solar-panel output planning, ritual brahma muhurta (90 minutes before sunrise), or simply when to expect dusk for an evening walk.
Worked example
For Kolkata on 21 June 2026, sunrise is around 4:55 AM, sunset around 6:25 PM, giving roughly 13h 30m of daylight — the longest day of the year. The moon\'s rise and set times shift by ~50 minutes each day as it orbits Earth.
