About this converter

This tool reverses the Hijri (Islamic) calendar back to the standard Gregorian (English) calendar. Pick the Hijri day (1 – 30), Hijri month (Muharram, Safar, Ramadan, etc.), and Hijri year (AH) — the page returns the matching English date with its weekday and ISO format.

How the reverse lookup works

The Hijri year is roughly 11 days shorter than the solar year, so simple arithmetic drifts. This tool uses an approximation to estimate the Gregorian month for the target Hijri month, then queries the Aladhan calendar API for that month and its ±1 neighbours and scans the cached results for the exact day. Results are cached so repeated lookups are free.

Worked example

Take 1 Ramadan 1447 AH. The approximation puts this near March 2026; the Aladhan calendar confirms 20 March 2026 (Friday). The exact start of Ramadan can vary by ±1 day depending on local moonsighting, so always confirm with your local mosque or sighting committee for ritual purposes.

The Hijri era

"AH" means Anno Hegirae — "in the year of the Hijra". The Hijri era starts from the lunar year that began on 16 July 622 CE, marking the Prophet Muhammad\'s migration from Mecca to Medina. So 1 Muharram 1 AH ≈ 16 July 622 CE.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

Hijri to English date FAQs

How do I convert a Hijri date to an English date?

Pick the Hijri day, Hijri month (from the dropdown), and Hijri year (AH) in the converter above. The page returns the matching Gregorian (English) date with the weekday and ISO format.

What Gregorian year matches a given Hijri year?

Hijri year × (354.367 / 365.25) + 622 gives a rough Gregorian year. For example, 1447 AH spans roughly 27 June 2025 – 16 June 2026 CE. The exact range varies because Hijri years are about 11 days shorter than solar years.

Why are some Hijri-to-Gregorian results "unavailable"?

The converter looks up Hijri dates via the Aladhan calendar API. If the API is temporarily unreachable, the page shows a clear "unavailable" message rather than guessing a date. Refreshing usually resolves it once the API responds.

Are all Hijri months exactly 30 days?

No. Hijri months alternate between 29 and 30 days based on actual moon sighting. By traditional calculation, odd-numbered months (Muharram, Rabi al-awwal, ...) are 30 days and even-numbered months are 29 days, with Dhu al-Hijjah getting an extra day in leap years.

What is the difference between the Hijri and Saka calendars?

The Hijri calendar is lunar (354/355 days a year) and is used in Islamic countries. The Saka calendar is the official solar calendar of India (used alongside Gregorian) and starts from 78 CE. They are entirely separate systems.
