Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

India Hindu Festival Dates 2027 — FAQ

What is the date of Diwali in 2027?

According to DevDarsha’s Panchang calculations, Diwali 2027 (Lakshmi Puja, Kartik Amavasya) falls on Friday, 29 October 2027. The exact observance can shift by region depending on when Amavasya tithi is active at sunset/sunrise locally.

What is the date of Holi in 2027?

Per DevDarsha’s Panchang calculations, Holi 2027 (Phalguna Purnima) falls on Monday, 22 March 2027, with Holika Dahan on the preceding evening. Dates may vary slightly by region.

Why do Hindu festival dates change every year?

Most Hindu festivals follow the lunar (Panchang) calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian year. Festivals are tied to a specific tithi (lunar day) within a lunar month, so their Gregorian date shifts each year and is periodically corrected by an extra month (Adhik Maas).

Why do festival dates vary by city?

A tithi begins and ends at a precise moment, but that moment maps to a different clock time in each city. The observance date is usually the day the relevant tithi is active at local sunrise — so a festival can fall on different Gregorian days in, say, Kolkata versus Mumbai. For city-specific results use the DevDarsha Panchang tool.

Are these dates based on Panchang?

Yes. Every date on this page is computed by the DevDarsha Panchang engine from tithi, paksha and lunar-month data — not copied from other calendars. This page is an India-wide reference; for an exact local result, check the Panchang for your city.

What is the difference between Amavasya and Purnima?

Amavasya is the new moon — the last tithi of the waning (Krishna) fortnight. Purnima is the full moon — the last tithi of the waxing (Shukla) fortnight. Diwali falls on a Kartik Amavasya; Holi and many other festivals fall on a Purnima.

What is Ekadashi?

Ekadashi is the 11th tithi of each lunar fortnight, so it occurs twice a month — once in Shukla Paksha and once in Krishna Paksha. It is traditionally observed as a fasting day for Vishnu, and each Ekadashi has its own name (Papankusha, Indira, Devutthana, Utpanna and so on). See the Ekadashi 2027 table above for the full list.

Can I use this data on my website?

Yes. You may cite this page as a festival-date reference (see the “Cite This Page” box above), and you can embed a free DevDarsha widget to show today’s tithi, upcoming festivals and Ekadashi reminders on your own site.

Does DevDarsha provide a Panchang API?

Yes. The same engine that powers this page is available to developers via the DevDarsha API platform, with daily and monthly Panchang endpoints.
